Poulheria Kyriakou studied Classics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (BA 1989) and Ohio State University, USA (MA 1992, PhD 1995). She taught Classics at University of Crete, Greece (1995-1998). In 1998 she was appointed associate professor of Greek at Democritus University at Komotini, Greece, where she taught until 2005. In 2005 she was appointed associate professor of Greek at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2012 she was promoted to professor. 

Her research interests include Greek tragedy, archaic lyric, archaic and Hellenistic epic, Greek philosophy, and women in antiquity. 

She is the author of articles, chapters in collective volumes, and four books. She has also coedited two collective volumes.
